“孩子的一百種語言” 這首美麗的詩是由瑞吉歐教學法創辦人羅里斯・馬拉古齊(Loris Malaguzzi) 所寫，詩的內容充分表達「幻想」和「遊戲」對於幼兒早期學習是非常重要。現今幼兒過早接受制度化的學習，他們天賦的好奇心和學習動力往往被扼殺，而瑞吉歐教學法的理念正是保護幼兒這珍貴的學習本能。

在瑞吉歐教學中，幼兒使用符號文字(Symbolic languages) ，如圖畫、雕塑、角色扮演、文字、油畫等來代表他們的想法和理論。特別在方案課程中，教師鼓勵幼兒使用不同媒介去記錄和呈現記憶、想法、預測、假設、觀察、感覺⋯⋯等，他們藉著各種不同的視覺媒介深入探索事物而獲得領悟，重新建構先前的認知，並對現象反覆探索修改，然後再建構認知。
